Competing in the 1975 Carling O’Keefe World Five Pin Bowling Championships held in Calgary, Alberta, bowlers from Northern Ontario who represented the communities of Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Atikokan, Dryden, and Kenora proved to the rest of the bowling world that they were a force to be reckoned with. Coach Jim Lee led his open mixed team of Bev McCool, Lucille Harris, Elvira Dustin, Ovide Duguay, Frank Massaro, and Cliff Keenan to a gold medal out-bowling the competition, rolling to a big 351 pin victory. Their total pinfall for 10 games was 12, 601, while Alberta trailed behind in second place. The individual members of the 1975 Open Mixed Team continued to bowl together, and separately, after their victory.
