Our Story

The Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum was established in Thunder Bay in 1978 with a mandate to preserve and honour our region's rich and proud sports heritage.

Since that time, over 200 men and women and numerous teams from all across northwestern Ontario have been honoured for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to a wide variety of sports. As well, thousands of historically significant artifacts have been preserved and displayed in a museum setting for citizens and visitors to take pride in and learn from.

Through the generous support of the City of Thunder Bay, the Province of Ontario, the Government of Canada and our many "Fans in the Stands", the Sports Hall of Fame has relocated to a new facility in which to better showcase and preserve our region's rich sports heritage. Originally built in 1916 to serve as a Lands Registry Office, this architecturally pleasing building is located beside City Hall and is part of the attractive heritage district.

The Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a place where legends live on...
