When the Thunder Bay Bombers took to the ice in January of 2005, they did not have a league to play in, but that did not stop them from chasing their dream of bringing the Allan Cup back to Thunder Bay. After playing a series of exhibition games, they won the Ontario Senior AAA Hockey Championship Renwick Cup by defeating the Aylmer Blues in two straight games, to represent Ontario at the Canadian Senior AAA Championships.
Held in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, the round robin tournament featured 6 teams from five regions across Canada plus the host squad. Finishing round-robin play with two losses, they fought back to win three straight games, including an overtime 4-3 final against Quebec's Montmagny Sentinelles, to claim the Allan Cup, returning it to Ontario after a 16-year absence. This victory marked the 10th Allan Cup title for Thunder Bay and the 11th for northwestern Ontario
