This respected coach, official and volunteer, has spent close to 30 years involved with curling from the local to the world level. Like most successful builders, he got his start in the sport as a participant, representing Ontario in national Elks' competitions during the 1970s.

Turning to the administrative side of the game, he joined the Board of Directors of the Fort William Curling Club in 1979 serving with the organization in various capacities such as Junior Chairman and President, through the 1990s. In 1984, he began his over 15 year involvement with the Northwestern Ontario Curling Association, holding such positions as Zone 2 Convener, Promotions & Development Chair and serving as President from 1998-99.

Involved with Curl Ontario since 1987, he has helped promote the education and development of curling in the province. A Level III certified Coach and Master Course Conductor, he has passed along his strong knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport to hundreds, if not thousands, of curlers through the teams he has coached, clinics he has coordinated and camps he has instructed.

A member of the Canadian Curling Association's officiating team since 1989, his technical skills have been called upon for over 20 national Men's, Women's and Junior championships, 4 World championships and the 1997 and 2001 Olympic Trials.

His exceptional leadership skills have seen him hold key positions with many events hosted in Thunder Bay, including the National Mixed, Scott Tournament of Hearts, Continental Cup and World Junior Championships.

A successful junior coach since the 1980s, his rinks have claimed a total of 7 Northern Ontario titles. In 1983 he coached the Scott Henderson Rink to gold at the Canada Winter Games and in 2003 he guided the Krista Scharf team to silver at the World University Games in Italy. Most recently, his coaching talents have been sought by other countries including the United States and the Netherlands.

In 1987 he was named 'Coach of the Year' by Curl Canada and in 2001 he received the 3M Community Coach Award. Both honours are a fitting recognition for this exceptional builders’ contributions to the sport of curling in his community and country.
