It was a true honour to have 3-time Stanley Cup champion Jamie Kompon, Assistant Coach of the 2024 Florida Panthers and a 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee spend part of his Day with The Cup at the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame on September 11th, 2024.

Photographer John Sims captured many of the moments from this special day in photos

His day included a visit with the students at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, a meet and greet with fans at the Port Arthur Stadium, a stop at Hillcrest Park and a reception with family and friends at the DaVinci Centre.

During his visit he also met up with Heather Houston and the Scotties Tournament of Hearts trophy which was in town in preparation for the hosting of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts which were held in Thunder Bay from February 14th to 23rd. Kompon, was the first assistant coach to win back-to-back NHL titles in over 75 years and Houston was the first Skip to claim back-to-back Scotties titles doing so in 1988 and 1989, going on to win the 1989 Women’s World Curling title.

Jamie's trip home also included a special moment when he brought the Cup to the Terry Fox monument, bringing back memories of when he was a kid and ran along the road beside Terry as he completed the final journey of his Marathon of Hope.
