First taking to the slopes at the age of three, this Thunder Bay skier started out competing in alpine before turning his attention to freestyle skiing, and never looked back. Competing in moguls, aerials, ballet and combined from 1979-92, and passing along his skiing knowledge to others, he has truly left his mark in the sport.
His record of success at the junior level saw him on the provincial and national podium on multiple occasions. In Shell Cup competitions he collected gold in 1981 in moguls and in 1983 added two gold and a silver and was the overall champion. That same season saw him as a champion at the Quebec Cup and as a Can-Am combined gold medallist. Competing at the 1985 Ontario Winter Games he once again shone through with first place finishes in aerials and ballet, a silver in combined and a bronze in moguls.
The 1984 national junior ballet silver medallist, he dominated the 1985 Canadian championships in junior events claiming a gold, 2 silvers and a bronze. Not surprisingly, his talents earned him a spot on the Ontario Ski Team and on the national development team.
Competing at the senior level, his gold medal performance in moguls, along with his bronze in combined at the 1986 Canadian Nationals, earned him the chance to represent his country at 17 World Cup competitions between 1986-92. Representing Canada at Nor-Am events between 1986 and 1991, he continually made his way onto the podium and was named the 1987 overall champion.
Having injured his knee earlier on in his career, he decided to retire from competitive skiing following the 1992 season. He remained active in a variety of capacities, including working with Freestyle BC, acting as Chair of Competition for World Cup races at Whistler Blackcomb and as a referee and course setter at various competitions, as well as serving on the board of Freestyle Canada.
As a long-time coach he helped develop a number of athletes who went on to success winning national and World Cup medals and competing at the Olympics, including 2006 Olympic freestyle skier Amber Peterson.
Returning to Thunder Bay in the 1990s he got involved in his hometown ski community and since 2010 has been active with the Thunder Bay Franco Alpine Ski team, an international high performance club operating out of Thunder Bay and Lutsen, Minnesota, passing along his knowledge and passion for the sport to the next generation.
