Friends of the Sports Hall of Fame

Capital Grants We are pleased to announce that we have received a provincial grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in the amount of $13,800. These funds will be used to assist with the purchase of some new shelving, a touch screen display, exhibit materials and new audio visual equipment. An additional grant of $10,200 was received from the Department of Heritage under the federal government's Museums Assistance Program to help with the cost of our new shelving system and artifact storage room monitoring equipment.

Operating Grant Once again this year we were approved for a grant from the City of Thunder Bay Cultural Funding Program in the amount of $65,000 to use towards our Operating Budget for the 2009 fiscal year. Thanks to City Council for their continued support of our efforts.

Employment Grants During the summer the Hall of Fame was fortunate to receive funding from the Summer Career Placement Program sponsored by the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, and also the Summer Experience Program supported by the Province of Ontario. We welcomed Katie Sutton as our Museum Assistant, Angela Izzo as our Educational Programmer and Laura Nigro as our Historical Researcher.

It All Adds Up! Thanks to Lincoln Galbraith and the staff of Grant Thornton LLP for the donation of services to complete our yearly audit.

A Job Well Done ! We once again extend our sincere gratitude to Norman Squitti of Robert's Plumbing for assisting with all of our mechanical and plumbing needs. A true "blue" friend when it comes to support!

Lookin' Good! Throughout the year Redwing Landscaping takes great care in keeping our lawn looking good and making sure our building is free of snow.

Sports Heritage In Print Watch for our monthly article in Thunder Bay Seniors, a local paper that is very supportive of our efforts to chronicle our proud sports heritage through the publishing of stories and photos from our archives.

Fame 600 Club Draw The 22nd Edition of this fundraising venture saw the final draws held on July 2nd in conjunction with our Annual Golf Tournament at Centennial Golf Course. Thank you to Bob Polischuk of Centennial Golf Centre for donating a full membership package to this draw. Thank you to all of our fantastic ticket sellers and purchasers. Through your efforts and support, over $11,000 was raised for the Hall of Fame!

22nd Annual Golf Tournament a Hit! Another successful tournament was held at Centennial Golf Course with over 80 golfers taking to the links. Finishing in first place with a score of 6 under the Dave Hamlin Team (Dave Hamlin, Mike Nurse, Dave Lushney,Steve Eaton and Steve Gibson) claimed the 2009 title. Thanks to our prize donors, hole sponsors and participants for making this event possible.

Community Museum Operating Grant A big vote of thanks to the Ministry of Culture for their approval of our 2008 CMOG allocation of $13,440. These funds are of great assistance to us as we strive to preserve and honour the sports heritage of this part of the province.
