Biography

In the summer of 1980 this group of young athletes, along with their coach and manager, carried on a tradition of excellence in the sport of Little League baseball. Their first challenge along the road to victory came from the Port Arthur Continentals which saw this Supreme Cleaners sponsored squad claim the District Title with a 4-3 victory following a 13 inning marathon. Competing in the Provincial championships in Stoney Creek, they went undefeated in the five team tournament, with their 9-4 victory over Ottawa in the final game seeing them earn the right to represent Ontario in the Canadian championships.

At the nationals, they continued their unbeaten streak, defeating teams from the Maritimes, Alberta, and Quebec, with their only loss coming at the hands of the host team Windsor. Challenging for the national crown, their 6-2 downing of the hometown favorites, in the sudden-death final, earned them the title.

Proudly sporting their Team Canada jerseys, they competed in the Little League World Series in Gary, Indiana, featuring teams from Europe, the Far East, Latin America and the United States. Facing the US South team, Houston's run in the bottom of the 9th saw a hard-fought 4-3 loss. Out hit by the US West, Hawaii's 9-2 victory marked the end of their run in the double knock-out event. Having served as wonderful ambassadors for their country, and as the pride of their hometown, these athletes truly left their mark on our region's proud sports heritage.
